RALEIGH — This summer it is counties, not countries, but the Special Olympics Summer Games for North Carolina still promises to be a big event.

Last year, thousands of athletes from 150 countries came to the Triangle to participate in the World Summer Games.

Volunteers were key in making last summer's experience a good one. Now, Special Olympics North Carolina is making a push to get volunteers for the state games taking place June 2-4 in Raleigh.

Nearly 1,700 athletes from 70 counties will compete in sports ranging from aquatics to volleyball.
