Clark plays Norma Desmond, a Hollywood actress who refuses to accept that she is getting old, and that as a star, she is fading.
"She's not crazy, but she lives in the past which is always unhealthy, I think," Clark tells WRAL's David Crabtree.
The stage, either for theatre or music, is a familiar place for Clark. She has been performing since age seven.
The music of Sunset Boulevard is a favorite.
"The music every night is very strong. There's one song I sing, 'As if we never said goodbye.' Every night it grabs me," she says.
Her timeless music has grabbed millions for years.
"When I recorded 'Downtown,' I just loved the song," she says. "I had no idea it would be a monster hit. I just loved the song, and millions others felt the same way."
This woman who makes her home in London makes her living around the world. This is Clark's first trip to Raleigh, and her third to the south. She says she love the southern accents.
Sunset Boulevard runs through Sunday at Raleigh's Memorial Auditorium.
