RALEIGH — Haptek's3-D technology grew out of research at major universities and technology companies. You can freely download the basic Virtual Friends programs and integrate them into your Web browser.
Several characters are available, and you can morph them. The Web site offers customized greeting cards for any occasion.
You can choose your character, voice, lighting effects and type in your message.
Haptek offers a couple of free programs, but you can buy a more sophisticated version for $30.
