Moore County firefighters spent a very hot Fourth of July. They were called out to battle a blaze alongside railroad tracks near the town of Parkwood.
The fire is thought to have been started by a malfunctioning freight train that began to spew sparks next to the tracks. Strips of land along one side of the right-of-way are either smoking or are already on fire.
An abandoned grain mill and its offices situated right next to the tracks are most at risk, as are several of the train's cars. Part of the offices have already burned. No houses are in danger in this rural area of the county.
The fire was reported as being off 22 North, towards High Falls
