FAYETTEVILLE — May 3, 1996 - 4:05 p.m. EDT
When Cumberland County deputies stopped Thursday to check on a motorist in a rest area along Interstate 95, they thought he was just taking a nap. It turns out he was taking much more than that.
They discovered and seized more than $10,000 in cash, a stolen handgun and drug paraphernalia. Deputies found the stash in a hidden compartment behind the rear seat.
They arrested the driver, 25-year-old Lewis Carter of Maryland.
He faces numerous charges
