Arrests Expected In Hope Valley Arson Case

Posted Updated

DURHAM — April 25, 1996 - 10:45 a.m. EDT

Durham fire investigators say the mystery of an intentionally set fire at Hope Valley School has been solved.

Fire gutted the 70-year-old school earlier this month while generations of students and former students looked on.

Witnesses had reported seeing a group of male teens near the school at the time the fire started. Last week, investigators released two composite sketches (below) and indicated they were looking for up to six suspects.

Investigators say they now know who destroyed the property and have processed several suspects, all of whom are juveniles.

A formal announcement is expected Thursday afternoon
