A Wake County student on his way to the beach for spring break died in a car crash Thursday.
Sixteen-year-old Lucius Wade Edwards was honored at a White House ceremony recently as one of 10 finalists in a nationwide essay contest and also won a recent Wake County Short Essay competition..
Edwards was driving on Interstate 40 in Duplin County, according to state police, when he swerved into a median and flipped the car. Another teen in the car was treated and released from the hospital.
A funeral service will be held Monday at 11 a.m
