Ritalin Abuse A Growing Problem In Schools

HILLSBOROUGH — February 29, 1996 - 5:20 p.m. EST

An 8th-grader at Stanback Middle School has been suspended for the remainder of the school year for distributing Ritalin to classmates.

No criminal charges have been filed, but more students may be targeted for punishment.

The problem of Ritalin abuse school among school children has gained considerable attention nationwide. The United Nations is currently looking into Ritalin use to determine its usefulness when prescribed.

The suspended Stanback studenthadbeen prescribed Ritalin, but had not been cleared to take the medication on campus
