Hackney has scored a school-record 19 touchdowns and rushed for more than 1,000 yards. The Falcons, who have not had a winning record since 1973, have flown into the second round of the 4-A playoffs with an 11-1 record.
"We just put so much effort and time. We really deserve it after everything that we have been through," Hackney says. "It feels pretty good to have a winning season."
"He is kind of the epitome of what you want football players to be -- hard worker, silent leader, good speed. Now he runs with more power, and he is our go-to guy," says football coach Rick Brown. "He is all about hard work. If everyone's football players worked as hard as him, you would have a good football team."
Academically for Hackney, schoolwork does not take a back seat. He is a B student who knows what he has to do.
"I have to be a model student in the classroom. I have to do my part and stay in my classes," he says.
Fran Ferrell, Hackney's teacher, says he is truly a fine gentleman.
"He has always displayed courtesy, kindness and intelligence," she says.
