Cobras Dominate 77-47

The win was the second in a row for the Cobras (3-10), who recorded their highest point total of the season.

Carolina signal-caller Fred McNair completed 15 of 27 passes for 253 yards and six touchdowns. Cornelius White shined on both sides of the ball, catching 3 passes for 56 yards and one touchdown. He also returned an interception 12-yards for a touchdown.

For New Jersey (3-10), Rickey Foggie finished 18 for 22 for 314 yards and seven touchdowns after replacing starter Tommy Maddox in the third quarter. David Saunders caught a game-high 10 passes for 152 yards and three scores. The Red Dogs turned the ball over four times.

The Cobras pitched a shutout in the first half, taking a 31-0 lead into the locker room.

Good defense and missed field goals dominated much of the opening quarter, until Remy Hamilton split the uprights from 25 yards out to give Carolina the lead 3-0 with 1:39 remaining in the first.

Tyrant Marion forced Maddox to fumble and Brad Keeney recovered. Dexter Dawson hauled in a 26-yard TD as the Cobras extended their lead to 9-0 with 10:06 to go in the half.

The pressure on the New Jersey quarterback continued when Keeney crushed Maddox as he released a pass. White was on the receiving end, taking the interception in from 12 yards for the touchdown. On the extra point attempt, the Cobras snapped the ball to Hamilton who found his way into the end zone to make the score 17-0.

Bobbie Cotten, a North Carolina State University alumnus, pounded his way into the end zone for a 4-yard touchdown to give Carolina a 24-0 lead. After another Red Dogs turnover, McNair found a streaking Antwuan Wyatt for a 23-yard touchdown. The Cobras led 31-0.

Adrian Lunsford returned the opening kick off of the second half to midfield and on the first play from scrimmage Dawson hauled in a his second touchdown pass. A bad center-quarterback exchange resulted in a safety on New Jersey's first possession.

The Red Dogs finally got on the board at the 9:31 mark, when Foggie connected with George LaFrance for a 15-yard touchdown. The Cobras answered with an 8-play, 29-yard drive capped by a 3-yard strike to Tommy Johnson. Hamilton missed his second extra point of the game, but the Cobras led 46-7 with 4:45 remaining in the third. Saunders caught a 34-yard touchdown pass from Foggie, trimming the Cobras lead to 46-14. The Dogs failed to convert the onside kick.

Early in the fourth, Foggie found Saunders for a 33-yard score, but the two-point conversion failed. Another failed onside kick gave the Cobras excellent field position. McNair capitalized, hitting White across the middle for a six-yard touchdown. New Jersey countered with a quick score, a 21-yard reception by Dameon Porter. Former Tar Heel Greg Harris caught a McNair offering and scored for the 60-28 advantage. Wyatt recovered a fumble to set up a 40-yard field goal.

The Red Dogs' Anthony Payton and LaFrance each scored late touchdowns. Bo Kelly scored twice for the Cobras, once each receiving and rushing. Garay came in for McNair to connect with Kelly. The final touchdown came on a 3-yard pass to Saunders.

The Cobras conclude their inaugural season Friday, July 21, with a home contest against Southern Division foe Tampa Bay. Carolina looks to make it three in a row at the Entertainment and Sports Arena. Kickoff is set for 7:30 p.m. -COBRAS--->
