As the Triangle thaws out ever so slowly, so too are we seeing changes in the deep freeze on the area sports schedule.

TheCarolina Hurricanes, who have not played since before the big snow Monday night, return to the ice Thursday afternoon.

The Hurricanes will make up their snowed out game with Phoenix at Raleigh's Entertainment and Sports Arena at 1 p.m. That game was originally scheduled for Tuesday night.

There will be no fees for parking and ticket holders can also bring a guest for free.

The Hurricanes say they will honor the tickets of fans who cannot get to Thursday's game at either the Montreal game on February 17 or the Washington game on February 21.

Several ACC basketball games also take place Thursday:Women's Basketball:

  • UNCtakes onDukeThursday night in Durham. Men's Basketball
  • NCSUtakes onClemsonThursday at 7 p.m. in South Carolina. The game will not be televised.
  • UNCandMarylandtake to the court in Chapel Hill at 7 p.m. All UNC students with ID will be admitted free.

RDU Internationalis still closed until at least noon Thursday, but the Maryland team is expected to fly in to the Greensboro airport.

The game is big for both teams. Maryland is trying to dig out from under the effects of an 0-3 start in ACC play. North Carolina has lost four straight games and at 11-8 has its worst January record since 1965.
