The post-Holt era is beginning for State. Although he is gone, the superstar wide receiver is not forgotten.
"We take what Torry taught us during the time that he was here, and the seniors coming back know what they have as far as leading the team, and we just have to go out here and do it," Barnette said.
The man responsible for getting Holt the ball last year will shoulder most of the offense this season. Barnette is a talented quarterback, who can kill you not only with his arm, but also his feet.
"That is a very unique ability, very few quarterbacks develop the skill at the level he's developed that, and all of that is just him," says N.C. State coach Mike O'Cain. "You can't coach a young man to do that."
N.C. State is predicted to finished fifth in the ACC, which should earn a bowl bid, but the Pack is not settling for the middle of the pack.
"If we stay healthy and we play up to our capability on a weekly basis, I believe we will win the conference championship," O'Cain said.
State gets things going August 28 on the road at Texas.
