New Arena Controversy Keeps Brewing

Posted Updated

RALEIGH — The group overseeing Raleigh's new arena found itself in a familiar position Tuesday, in front of an angry city council.

The Centennial Authority wanted to change the language in the deal it struck three weeks ago with Raleigh and Wake County.

The group claimed there was a mistake in the wording about who would cash in on the arena's naming rights. Raleigh's city council wanted nothing to do with the argument.

"We've gotten burnt so many times by this deal, finding out information later after negotiations that we just don't want to get caught in that position again," Raleigh City Council member Paul Coble said.

One slight change surrounding the distribution of sponsorship money was approved. Wake County must sign off on the revised contract.
