Wolfpack Looking Ahead to Football Camp

Posted Updated

RALEIGH — Can you believe college football teams will be reporting to summer camp in less than a month? One team that can't wait to get back out there is NC State, and they're proving it on the practice field.

"By far this is the best conditioned team I've been around," says strength coach William Hicks, "and I've been doing this for 17 years."

Hicks stands by his statement for one reason-- attitude.

"Everybody is out here, just doing everything they can," safety Jason Perry explains. "Everybody is pushing everybody. It's what it is. It's what it's about."

"I think we've been doing pretty good," admits wide-receiver Torry Holt. "Seniors are stepping up and getting everybody motivated."

The motivation is simple. Improve upon last years strong finish, and make it to its first bowl since '95. The Pack has had excellent turnout for voluntary workouts this summer to achieve those goals .

"We're just out here working hard, every chance I can get, just working on every little thing-- techniques, just everything," Perry says.

"The level of commitment, the way they're working, their attitude, it is paying off now," Coach Hicks says.

The only question now, will head coach Mike O'Cain be satisfied with his teams conditioning when they report to camp in August.

"We're happy," Perry says. "From just what I've seen, the majority of people are here."

"When he's happy, I'm happy," jokes Coach Hick.

Hopefully, State fans will be too.
