UNC's Montross Eager to Play in One Place

Eric Montross visits the Dean Smith Center each summer to help teach the kids at basketball camp. Chapel Hill is just the beginning of his travels. The NBA has helped Montross see America, but not necessarily in the way he'd like. He has lived in city after city after NBA city.

"I've bounced around a lot, and I think that's been tough on me," Montross admits. "But I think, hopefully, I'll find a home in Detroit. I hope I'm not jinxing myself. I've said it before. But I'd really like to find someplace where I can call home."

Montross says he needs to stay in one place so he can develop as an offensive player. He has yet to stay for one team long enough to become part of the offensive flow.

"For a big man, in particular, who doesn't have the ball coming up the court, you need people to pass it to," Montross explains. "You have to be in a position to learn to play off those other players. Then, that's when I think strides and improvement will be made."

Now, home is Detroit. That means this Carolina guy will depend on a few passes from a Duke guy.

"We joke a lot about that," laughs Montross. "Grant is a great player and a great person. I'll still catch it, even if it comes from a Blue Devil."

That's especially true if he can stay in Detroit.
