DURHAM — Florida A&M's loss is a big gain forNorth Carolina Central University.
The UNC Board of Governors namedDr. James Ammonsthe school's next chancellor Friday. Ammons is currently provost at the A&M campus where he spent 17 years rising through the leadership ranks.
Under his watch, A&M's enrollment doubled. Ammons has great hopes for his tenure at N.C. Central.
"While I graciously accept this position with some degree of awe and humility, I also accept it with a great deal of optimism about the future development of NCCU," he says.
Ammons, replaces retiring chancellor Dr. Julius Chambers, knows N.C. Central well. He led the Southern Accreditation inspection of the campus in 1999.
