— Vance County authorities Thursday captured the last of three men who escaped from the county jail last weekend.

Sheriff Peter White said deputies took Reuben Cooper into custody late Thursday morning at a house off Vicksboro Road. They charged Cooper with first-degree kidnapping, larceny from a person and misdemeanor escape, White said.

Cooper  had "a considerable amount of assistance in hiding as he was pursued, encompassing various residences in Vance County," White said.

Sunday, Cooper, Kyle Shearin and Aaron Harris escaped from the jail by getting onto the roof of the building and jumping over the barbed wires White said.

Authorities had recaptured Shearin and Harris a couple of hours after the escape.

The inmates were being held on charges ranging from drug possession to possession of a firearm by a felon and communicating threats.

After his arrest Thursday, Cooper was held in the state's Polk Correctional Institution in Butner.

"Move the fence, or get rid of the prison trampoline!"Loving Life in Apex

Maybe the fence should stay where it is and line the perimeter with large steel-jaw traps.

Jumped from the roof OVER a barbed fence? Seems like a flaw in the installation of that fence, if someone can jump over it.

Move the fence, or get rid of the prison trampoline!

I just hope that in their future dealings with the system that they are all recognized as escape and flight risks and are treated accordingly.
