Brother-Sister Duo's Quick Thinking Saves Grandmother

At first, the two panicked, but they relied on a lifesaving lesson learned in school.

Joseph Hill and his 10-year-old sister, Carrissia, were home alone with their grandmother, Hazel McAllister, when the 55-year-old fell backwards while having a stroke and seizures. Carrissia knew something was terrible wrong, so she ran and got her brother.

"When he saw her, he started crying and then we were both crying and then he started screaming call 911," Carrissia said. "I was scared. I was hoping she would not die."

Joseph was terrified, but he remembered what to do in an emergency.

"I was crying, and I was screaming real loud," Joseph said. "I was telling my sister to call 911."

Carrissia quickly picked up the phone and called 911.

The brother and sister then stayed on the phone until the ambulance got there.

"Had it not been for them, I have no idea if I'd be alive today or not," McAllister said. "They saved my life."

Cora Hill was extremely proud of her children. "Everything I said to them, everything the school had taught them sunk in," Hill said. "I'm proud of them. The school's proud of them."

Most of all, Carrissia and Joseph are happy their grandmother is okay.
