RALEIGH — Six families have lost their homes to a Sunday morning apartment fire.
Firefighters battled the smoke and flames at Meredith Village apartments in Raleigh, just after 8:30 a.m.
The fire started in a lower unit in the back of the building and spread very quickly to the roof.
Everyone got out safely.
Fire officials say the construction -- fire walls and a cement floor -- helped contain the blaze.
Six units were damaged by fire, smoke, and water.
The cause is still under investigation.
