CLAYTON — Horse racing fans blazed a trail to Clayton to take advantage of the warm weather.
More than 20,000 people took in The Brookhill 2000 Steeplechase on Saturday. The event is known to attract the well-dressed to the shorts and T-shirt crowd along with a few tailgaters.
"We actually run a grass track with jumps. It originally got its name from the fact they were running from church steeple to church steeple because they were high land marks, you could see them in order to know where you're going," says chairman Michael Brown.
The Raleigh Jaycees hosted the event. The purses for this year's event totaled $55,000. -->
