Former Wilson Recreation Director Charged with Sexually Abusing Teen

WILSON — A former director of a Wilson recreation center is in jail, charged with sexually abusing a 14-year-old girl.

Following an extensive investigation, a grand jury indicted Charles Jones, 40, on one count of statutory sex offense and three counts of indecent liberties with a child.

The Wilson native resigned as director of the Reid Street Recreation Center in February.

Investigators say the alleged abuse did not involve a child at the recreation center.

Jones is also a former police officer in Rocky Mount and Wilson.

TheWilson Police Departmentand theState Bureau of Investigationbegan an investigation last October into allegations Jones abused the girl.
