Sixty-eight teachers walked off the job last Friday after the center's director was fired.
No one has commented on the exact reason for the firing of Karenne Berry, but the center has been cited for numerous state violations.
Thursday, the Durham NAACP announced its support for Berry. No one is saying the firing was racially motivated, but rather an injustice.
"The violations which were mentioned were either corrected under Ms. Berry's tenure or not considered serious enough to affect its high rating," says Rev. Curtis Gatewood of the NAACP.
The Early Learning Center has been closed all week. About 200 children are enrolled in the program.
There is no word yet on how many teachers have decided to stay.
