LEE COUNTY — A Saturday night canoe trip ended tragically. A woman died after the canoe in which she was riding with her husband overturned.
The victim has been identified as Shannon Goodwin, 32, of Bear Creek.
Authorities say three canoes went into Deep River about 6:30 p.m. near Gulf. One of the canoes encountered a log jam near the Cummock bridge and overturned.
Goodwin and her husband both tumbled into the water. He surfaced and called for others in the group to help.
Searchers found Goodwin's body around 10:30 p.m. at the bridge near the Lee-Chatham County line.
