Raleigh Couple Rings In The New Year With Millennium Baby

Posted Updated

RALEIGH — With the stroke of midnight came the Triangle's first genuine millennium baby.

Angela and Sean Thomas are celebrating more than the new year. The new year brought them health, happiness and a bundle of joy. Sean Michael Thomas was delivered at 12:35 a.m. Monday. He is the first baby for the Triangle and for the couple born on January 1, 2001.

"I never thought it would happen that way," says Angela Thomas, Sean's mother. "It's an added bonus. I can tell him when he grows up."

A New Year's Eve baby is just as special. In fact, many mothers were pushing for a 2000 birthdate. Nathaniel Davis was welcomed into the world just in time.

"We'll always be able to keep track of his birthdate now. You don't want to stop holding him," says Angela Davis, Nathaniel's mother.

All the local hospitals like to compete for the New Year's Baby. For 2001, Rex Hospital will have the bragging rights.
