HARNETT COUNTY, N.C. — Authorities have released the name of the person who died while allegedly being involved in an attempted car theft in Harnett County.
Investigators say 21-year-old Ashley Demetrius Gilliam, of Sanford, tried to steal a vehicle from a Lillington home when he was confronted by the vehicle's owner and the owner's father-in-law.
During an altercation, one of the men shot Gilliam, who later died at the scene.
There is no word on whether charges will be filed in the case.
