FRANKLIN COUNTY — Allegations of sexual harassment have led to a shake-up inside a privately run police department in Franklin County.
The Lake Royale Property Owner's Association confirms it disbanded its police department in early March.
Residents have hired a new police force, but it is not on patrol 24 hours a day. In the meantime, the Franklin County Sheriff's Office has had to pick up the slack.
"This is stretching our resources. We only have five patrolmen on duty 24 hours a day, and this is a large county with 540 square miles to cover," says Franklin County Sheriff Robert Redmond.
People in the lakeside community say, in spite of some gaps in service, they are not concerned about their safety.
