FAYETTEVILLE — A Saturday morning tanker accident forced evacuations of some areas in Cumberland County.
A liquid-propane tanker turned over onto its side around 9 a.m. on Raeford Road west of Fayetteville. None of the 9,800 gallons of liquid propane escaped.
Crews from several agencies responded, and several apartments and homes in the immediate area had to be evacuated. About 80 people spent Saturday afternoon and evening away from home. Raeford Road was also closed in that area.
A tanker from South Carolina had to be dispatched to take the contents of the overturned tanker. Authorities said that residents would return to their homes as soon as the scene is safe.
