A new golf course development in Chatham County has a famous name attached to it: Davis Love III.

The Preserve at Jordan Lake is expected to open in Spring 2002. Love designed the course, which features rolling greens wrapped around high-dollar homes.

Golfers Collette and Kerry Sanders are among the first to buy a lot at the Preserve. They like the location and the name behind the course design.

"I'm looking forward to seeing what kind of a course he puts in front of us," Collette said.

Love's golf career took off in college at UNC-CH. He is now among the top money earners on the PGA Tour. He is trying to preserve the natural setting around his new course.

"We're going to try not to move a lot of dirt and affect the natural terrain or the environment that much," Love said.

He says he has amateur golfers in mind as he designs courses.

"It's easy to make a golf course hard," he said. "It's harder to make a golf course challenging and fair at the same time."
