CARRBORO — Carrboro police are hoping for a break in a two-year-old murder case.

In March 1999, Wilbert Jones, 74, was gunned down in his Alabama Avenue home. The murder is Carrboro's only unsolved homicide in 20 years.

Police say they have few leads, and that is particularly painful for Jones' seven children.

"It's been heartbreaking," said son Edward Jones. "It's been tearful. It's all made us angry."

The Jones children lean heavily on each other, and they have faith that their father's killer will be found.

"We will never, ever forget," Jones said.

Investigators say a reward has increased to as much as $11,000 for information that leads to an arrest.

Anyone with information should call the Carrboro Police Department at919-918-7413.
