Fayetteville Police Crack Down on Neighborhood Speeding

Pearl Street is a main shortcut between busy Bragg Boulevard and Fort Bragg Road. Fayetteville police have set up patrols to find dangerous drivers.

Officers are not having a hard time finding speeders. One man was clocked driving 48 mph in a 25 mph zone, which landed him a mandatory court appearance.

"He's a pizza delivery man, and I asked him why he was going so fast," said Officer Mike Copoulos. "He said he was late for pizza deliveries."

With kids playing and people walking on neighborhood streets, police say fast drivers must slow down.

"You are out for a nice stroll, and someone going 55 blows by you. It scares you. You could get hit," said neighborhood walker Linda McGirr.

On some roads, police have posted bright orange markers on speed limit signs to draw attention. The traffic officers rotate patrol areas each week.
