Temperatures are expected to remain in the low 30s with scattered precipitation through the Triangle, and heavier activity towards the south.
The threat of icy weather caused someclosings and delaysat schools around the area. Wake County students on the traditional calendar are off Monday because of a teacher workday. Year-round students were scheduled to have classes, but they have been canceled as well.
Department of Transportationcrews were out on the streets preparing for significant icing. There were no reports of problems on the roads in a 12-county area that includes Wake County.
The weather did postpone a DOT project that will impact I-95 travelers. Beginning Tuesday morning, crews will shut down the southbound lanes of the interstate at the Pope Road Exit in Dunn. A bridge span that was hit by a truck in January is being repaired. Detours will be in effect for about two weeks.
AtRDU International, spokesperson Mike Blanton said about 10 departures and several arrivals were canceled Monday morning. Despite the freezing temperatures early Monday, Blanton said the temperature on runways and taxiways was above freezing.
Ice can cause slippery sidewalks and porch steps. Accumulated ice can cause power outages.
