Late this afternoon, WRAL learned investigators are looking into whether the caretaker who drew Hamrick's bath may have been working long hours on little sleep.
They are also looking at whether she may have been caring for Hamrick alone, despite previous problems. Before this information surfaced, Hamrick's father, Don, said the family is mourning its loss.
"My wife and I are obviously grieving the loss of David, our only child," he said.
On the day after his son's funeral, Don Hamrick talked about the time they had together.
"We'd bring him home after church on Sunday, and he had the run of the house," he said. "As I said, he liked to play in his room, play on the piano."
Don Hamrick says the Tammy Lynn Center's staff has been extremely supportive in the two and a half weeks since his son was hurt. Both he and his wife remain very supportive of the Center's work.
"They provide an invaluable service to a segment of our community, who few have attempted to serve," Don Hamrick said. "We mourn this tragedy for us all, but we will always be grateful to the Tammy Lynn Center for the many years of positive association."
As far as what the various investigations into David's death may yield, Don Hamrick says the center will make the necessary changes.
"If there's something that should be done, then it will be done," he said.
Because the investigations are still taking place, the Tammy Lynn Center says it cannot talk about the new allegations.
