Hatcher Wanted for Shooting of Robeson County Man

Posted Updated

ROBESON COUNTY — A man with a long history of trouble is back in it.

Eddie Hatcher broke into The Robesonian newspaper in 1988 and held dozens of people hostage. He got out of jail after contracting AIDS.

Robeson County Sheriff's investigators say Hatcher is wanted for the shooting of Michael Anthony Locklear.

"Hatcher had been looking for Locklear and had accused of breaking into his residence sometime earlier," said Maj. Jimmy Maynor of the Robeson County Sheriff's Department. "Hatcher then fired four or five times with a shotgun and peppered him on the legs."

Locklear suffered only minor wounds. Both he and witnesses identified Hatcher before the suspect fled the scene.

Investigators say when he is arrested, Hatcher will be charged with assault with a deadly weapon.

Hatcher was last seen near Maxton driving a gray pick-up truck.
