RALEIGH, N.C. — A vehicle, which was involved in the assault of a Raleigh police officer Tuesday afternoon, is now part of an arson investigation.
Authorities say the officer was driving a motorcycle when he attempted to stop a white Lexus GS 300 in the area of Millbrook Road and Atlantic Avenue around noon Tuesday for careless and reckless driving.
Police say the white Lexus attempted to back up and ended up hitting the officer on the motorcycle. The driver in the white Lexus then sped away.
At around 7:45 p.m., Raleigh fire crews responded to a car fire on Broyhill Circle. Authorities later learned it was the same vehicle involved in the earlier incident.
Authorities say the officer, whose name has not been released, is OK. Police are looking for the person driving the vehicle.
