Posted April 10, 1999

— A man wanted in connection with a double shooting Saturday night has been arrested in Bristol, Va. He has been charged with one count of murder. More charges could be coming in regard to the wounding of a second man.

Wake County Sheriff's deputies had been looking for Steve Brooks, 42, of 4001 Highway 42 in Raleigh. He was arrested by a Bristol police officer on Sunday.

Deputies had been called to the shooting scene along Highway 42 in southern Wake County Saturday night. Detectives say the shots were fired after an argument between the suspect and the two victims.

It happened near a fire found burning in the yard of a home.

The Wake County Sheriff's Office said William Curran, 33, was fatally shot. James Arnett, 42, was injured by gunfire and taken to Wake Med where he was listed in critical condition Sunday night. Both men lived on Highway 42.
