TRENTON — A boycott of white-owned businesses has been called off in Trenton, following the town council's agreement to annex three black neighborhoods.
The town received national media attention after the former mayor told a newspaper the town council had avoided annexing black areas to keep a white voter majority and that blacks are not leaders.
Blacks had sued the town, wanting a bigger voice in local government.
One town official said it's time to "put this ugly thing behind us."
The mayor resigned last week.
