Durham Murder Victim Identified; Police Search for Answers

e-mail print friendly

Investigators have identified a body found Saturday inside an abandoned car along the Durham Freeway.

Now they have a murder mystery on their hands.

A sheriff's deputy made the grisly discovery when he stopped to check out the Honda Accord at the side of the road Saturday afternoon. Inside he found the body of a man, shot twice with a large caliber handgun.

Investigators have now identified the victim as 24-year-old Israel Negron of Durham. They say the car belongs to one of Negron's friends. That friend, they say, last saw Negron getting into the car Wednesday night around ten o clock.

"We're looking for anyone who'd been in contact with him since then who may have seen the vehicle along the road or any activity around that vehicle," says an investigator.

And with the abandoned car found along one of the busiest stretches of highway in the Triangle, police feel sure someone saw something.

They believe the car could have been sitting along the busy westbound stretch of the Durham Freeway for several days with the victim inside.

They ask anyone with information to call Durham Crimestoppers at683-1200.
