Fayetteville Police Search for Murderer of Man Left Dead for Days

Posted Updated

FAYETTEVILLE — Fayetteville authorities are investigating the murder of a man whose body was left for days before police found it.

Neighbors say the victim was an independent contractor who worked for himself. There was only one other man living in the house and now that man has disappeared.

A barking dog led police to Tyrone Garrett's home last Thursday night where they found Garrett's badly decomposed body. He had been dead for days.

Neighbors are shocked and scared. "It scares me because he's a man who didn't bother anyone. He'd tend to his business," says Larnette Rivers, the victim's neighbor.

Another neighbor says he's considering packing up and moving out.

Police believe the victim's roommate may have been living with the corpse, and driving Garrett's car.

They will not say he's a suspect, but they do want to talk to him.

People in the neighborhood know the murderer is still at large.

"It's scary but I try to stay in and be careful about people coming up and coming by or coming down in here," says neighbor Bell Bridges.

Investigators are not saying exactly how the victim was killed. They say if they release that information, it could hurt their case.

Anyone with information about this crime is asked to call the Fayetteville Police Department.
