Fayetteville Police say 38-year-old Robert Stephen Hodges sent pornographic pictures of young girls and boys to someone he thought was a 14-year-old girl. Police say the soldier also tried to set up a meeting with the minor.
Hodges was really communicating with an undercover officer in Hillsborough County, Fla.
Hodges was arrested at his Fayetteville home. He is charged with three counts of sexual exploitation of a minor. Hodges has been released on a $25,000 unsecured bond.
Police say any child with access to the Internet could become a target of this type of pornography.
"The Internet is so common now. Computers are in a lot of houses. They have a lot more access. So what better way for the predator to get into your home than using the phone lines through the computer," said Fayetteville Capt. Brad Chandler.
These charges mark the second time this month a member of North Carolina's military community has been linked to Internet pornography.
Pope Airman Scott Williams was convicted a week ago on Internet child pornography charges, as well as raping a woman he met through the Internet.
Williams was kicked out the Air Force and sentenced to a year in a military prison.
