Triangle May Get More Road Medians

Posted Updated

RALEIGH — A massive project to keep drivers from running head-on into each other on North Carolina highways may soon kick into high gear.

The Department of Transportation is considering handing over the biggest chunk of money ever to build median guardrails -- $44 million to be exact.

If the transportation board approves the plan next month, federal money will be used to start at least 22 projects.

The Triangle would get almost 40 miles of guardrails at a cost of $18 million.
