Teen Hit by Car Dies

Posted April 19, 2007

— A 14-year-old Raleigh girl who was hit by a car on Western Boulevard last week has died, authorities said.

Joanne Marie Conyers, of 3900 Neeley St., was crossing the road in the 3900 block of Western Boulevard, in front of Amedeo’s Italian Restaurant, on the night of April 10 when she was hit by an eastbound 1989 Toyota, police said.

Conyers' cousin, who was crossing the street with her, wasn't injured in the incident.

Evelyn Conyers said her daughter died Wednesday afternoon, but hospital equipment kept her body functioning so some of her organs could be transplanted.

cheekygreek, why do you feel the need to be so rude to someone such as spiritwarriorwoman. What harm has she done you? Once again, it's her right to express her concerns and feelings for this family, shame on you. At least she has polite, kind and loving things to pass on to this unfortunate family. What show of support have you shown. If you where one of my kids or family members I'd be ashamed to acknowledge you. This is not the time or place for your ill manners.

My heartfelt sympathies to the family. Another senseless, tragic death of a child leaves too many in mourning. I hope time brings her family peace.

My thoughts and prayers go out to the Conyers family. I just want to know why not much was said about this accident in the new media? Another life lost at such a young age.

Aint-it-so-Joe, not that it matters, but my reason was simple. If the family of friends happen to be reading through here and run into the atheist remarks, I thought it might counteract the effect with a little humor. My apologies if it offends you but my intentions were good. This is a public forum and we can't control what some insensitive people say. But we can try to lighten the effects of them.

Hard to understand how some can be so jovial about this...how sad for the family!...and for the society we live in too!
