Posted April 11, 2007

— A fire damaged three units at a Raleigh apartment building early Wednesday morning when flames spread up the structure and onto the roof.

The blaze started around 1 a.m. at the University Woods apartment building off Trailwood Drive, according to fire crews on the scene.

No one was injured, but people living in three units had to spend the night elsewhere after their apartments sustained smoke and water damage.

The cause of the fire has not been determined yet.

It is worth the money to get renters insurance...I had it for 7 yrs. It is not that expensive and you will have peace of mind. I know that most agencies will take quarterly installments.

I live in University woods and I saw the whole thing. pretty cool to see it or even something like that for my first time. i still dont know what caused it but everything was done safe and quick.

I recently purchased renters insurance. I believe it will cover up to $20,000 for about $90.00 per year. Well worth it.

I agree, what IS up with all of these apartment fires? For students and anyone else who can't afford a house, apartments are the only living option but they seem to come with more and more risks these days. I am glad the apartment complex I am moving into next year requires renters insurance...it brings a nice little peace of mind in light of recent events.

These apartment complexes must be made of heart pine or something.

As one who has been through a similar situation, I hope all residents had renters insurance.

What is going on with these apartment fires. Sounds like they need to do an everyday inspections to make sure everyone is living safe.
