Durham Church Supports Hiring Retirees

Posted Updated

DURHAM — A church in Durham wants to make sure companies looking for workers don't overlook retirees as possible employees. Durham's Life Community Church is teaming up with the Governor's Task Force on Older Workers to help businesses understand senior citizens are still very useful in their later years.

The Church says senior citizens can still make a great contribution to their community, so they've begun a program called Labor of Love.

"Labor of Love seeks to merge or match senior citizens with corporations. Match them up with companies that are looking for qualified people who have skills," said Rev. Kingsley Fletcher, pastor of Life Community Church.

The church sponsored a senior citizen appreciation day for Sunday service. As part of that, it provided free health screenings and presented speakers from state and local government.
