Hearing Impaired Men Saved from Train Collision

e-mail print friendly

It was a close call in Garner Wednesday night. Two men were in a car as a train came speeding toward them at Garner and Yergen Roads. The wheels of the car were stuck in a ditch. The men are hearing impaired, and didn't hear the train coming.

Witnesses spotted the car on the tracks and called for help. A bystander was able to pull the passengers to safety seconds before the train smashed into the car.

"I knew enough sign language to tell them a train was coming," Robert Arnold said. "And it was time to get out of the car."

No one was hurt, but the train demolished the car. The Amtrak passenger train continued its route soon after the collision.
