2 Charged in Burlington Slaying

Burlington, N.C. — Police on Wednesday charged a second man in the death of a man found shot after his car crashed into a utility pole in Burlington last weekend.

Officers arrested Garland Bigelow Jr., 27, of Lakeside Avenue, in a house in the 300 block of Caswell Street in the city about 6 p.m., they said. He is charged with first-degree murder in the death of Jemario Shante Scott, 21, of Hickory.

Tuesday, city police and the State Bureau of Investigation arrested Demond Deangelo Wiley, 31, of Burlington and charged him with first-degree murder, too, police said.

Scott was found dead Saturday night in a car that crashed into a utility pole at Maple Avenue and Hanford Road about 9:30 p.m.
