RALEIGH, N.C. — A Raleigh man has been convicted of stealing his 8-year-old son's identity.

Joseph Edward Bostic III pleaded guilty to 11 counts of financial identity theft.

Police say that he stole the identity of his then 8-year-old son to get a driver's license and obtain credit.

An investigation by Wake County Sheriff's Office revealed Bostic obtained a Nextel account, a credit card account, a Time-Warner account, and a Sprint account in his son's name, police said.

Bostic, 38, of 6123 Poole Road, was also accused of stealing his son's identity in Cary. He was sentenced to between 13 and 16 months in prison.

The North Carolina Department of Motor Vehicles and the Cary Police Department assisted the Wake County Sheriff's Office with its investigation on the identity fraud charges.
