ELIZABETH CITY, N.C. — Authorities arrested a man Wednesday wanted in connection with the death of an infant in Sanford last September.

Investigators in Elizabeth City and with the U.S. Marshals Service arrested Hector Salcedo in Elizabeth City late Wednesday.

Law enforcement authorities in Lee County said Salcedo shot Maria Reyes in the chest in a house on Glenwood Drive in September. Reyes was pregnant at the time.

Reyes survived the shooting, but her baby was delivered prematurely and died several days later.

Salcedo has been charged with first-degree murder.
