Iron Mike Back
FORT BRAGG, N.C. — Fort Bragg's most famous soldier is back on the job.

On Friday, soldiers dedicated the new Iron Mike statue. Officials said the old one was falling apart, so the Army replaced it with a replica.

Sgt. Maj. James Runyon posed for the original in 1960. He was supposed to attend Friday's ceremony, but he died a few weeks ago. His son, Dan Runyon, went instead.

"That's a big, big part of his life and he would have liked to have been here," said Dan Runyon.

The Army plans to fix the original statue and put it on display at Fayetteville's Airborne and Special Operations Museum.
