Some Claim Chatham Growth Getting Out Of Hand

Posted Updated

CHATHAM COUNTY, N.C. — A group of residents in Chatham County is complaining about growth.

They argue the board of commissioners and members of the planning board have allowed Chatham County's growth to get out of hand.

"If we look at this particular planning board and set of commissioners right now, one might be able to say there's never been a development they haven't liked," resident Gary Simpson said.

Last week, a grassroots group called Chatham Citizens for Effective Communities sent an email to 3,500 people encouraging attendance to Monday's meeting. Members of the group spoke about poor planning and concerns about traffic and pollution.

County Chairman Bunkey Morgan told WRAL every project goes through a thorough process, and if a builder meets all of the requirements and qualifications, there is no reason to reject the project.
