Bridge Named After Fallen Wayne County Investigator

RALEIGH, N.C. — A bridge in Wayne County will honor a fallen law enforcment officer.

The state Department of Transportation named the new U.S. 117 bridge over U.S. 70 after Capt. Jerry Best.

Best died nearly three years ago when he was hit by a car, while trying to clear an injured deer off the road.

He was a 25-year veteran of the Wayne County Sheriff's Office.
